Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.
In 1987, a meeting was held among three visionaries- HH the Dalai Lama- Tenzin Gyatso, Adam Engle, a lawyer and entrepreneur and Francisco Varela, a neuroscientist. While the trio understood and appreciated modern science and its uses, they also realized that contemplative practices and methods of introspection were losing their meaning in the fast developing and competitive world. Thus, they felt the need to formulate a new curriculum for education that could bridge the gap between Eastern Philosophy and Western Science. With their tireless efforts, Mind and Life Institute was born in the USA.
HH the Dalai Lama wished to carry forward the work of MLI in India. He shared this vision with a close friend and associate Late Shri Kulbhushan Bakshi, who had been working for the welfare of Tibetans. Thus the idea of Ayur Gyan Nyas (Regd.) was conceived in India.
With his initiative the Indian Trust “Ayur Gyan Nyas” was registered in the beginning of 2014 to take the work of MLI forward in India where the current education system seem inadequate in imbibing the inherent values of Care, Compassion, Kindness, Honesty, Altruism in children, the effect of which is seen in depreciation of human values and prevailing dismal situation.
The team members of the trust are since then, tirelessly working to take the vision of His Holiness and Late Mr. Bakshi forward in India by conducting a number of capacity building workshops and brainstorming to find the most effective way to inculcate value based and secular ethics education in the schools of India.
The curriculum designing team has been formed by bringing in experts in the field of academics, curriculum designing, child psychology and pedagogies. Academicians and experts in the field with decades of experience have given their consent to work for this noble cause.
We hope to pilot this programme by the next academic session, i.e. 2017.
