The second TOT was held at Ghaziabad. The aim of this follow up TOT was to familiarize the participants with the concept of care, discuss all three modes of care, from the resource material provided by Mind & Life Institute, US, enactment of associated contemplative practices and review the progress made so far by all participants for their self-growth. Prof Samten, Dr Alok Bajpai, Ms Anshu Sahi, Dr Paramjeet Rawat delivered the sessions as the resource persons.
The five values– RHCFR i.e. Respect, Honesty, Compassion, Fairness, and Responsibility were discussed in detail in the second TOT. It was decided that these five core values will form the basis for the schools’ approach to character building and serve as the foundation for all relationships among students, staff, faculty, administrators, and parents.
The first day was dedicated to familiarizing the participants toward importance of ethics in education.
Prof Samten proposed to take a three tier approach in order to include personality development and skill development among school students. Addressing the TOTs he said “This is a starting point, first we must understand the philosophy, the system and the background. To go up to the teachers’ level we will have to first develop these values in us.”
The three tier approach will be-
- To prepare the TOTs
- Inculcate and develop these values in teachers
- How will the teacher articulate the values in the students
Prof Samten deliberated with the participants on the selection process of teachers as that is extremely important for the success of the whole programme.
The TOT participants were then familiarized with the work of MLI in USA, giving them a gist of Ayur Gyan Nyas’s AGN aim, vision and mission.
The three modes of care- Receiving care, Cultivating self care and Extending care were discussed in detail by resource persons Dr Paramjeet Rawat and Ms Anshu Sahi.
Dr Alok Bajpai, one of the trustees of AGN concluded the session by imparting useful advice to the TOT members to handle the new curriculum and some important points that have to be kept in mind while undertaking the training of the teachers. He also extended an invitation to AGN to pilot this programme in IIT Kanpur.
